ARTIST STATEMENT:
Art informs life; Life informs art and Creativity.
Stephen Potter has been a metal sculptor in the Dallas, TX area for the past 15 years, glass sculptor for 8 years, and psychotherapist for over 40 years. He was Treasurer and Board member of Texas Sculpture Association from 2008-2015, and Treasurer and Board member of Texas Jewish Arts Association in 2017. He has studied metal sculpture with Art Shirer, Ian Eisenmann, and Dan Sellers, clay sculpture with Debbie Ballard, and glass sculpture with Nan Phillips. In his professional life, he has also worked as an Instructor, Dept of Pediatrics, UT Health Science Center of Dallas, Richland College, and Adjunct Professor for UTA and UT Austin Schools of Social Work.
Stephen’s art has been influenced by Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Joel Shapiro, and David Smith. His art reflects an ongoing fascination with, and optimism about, the people around him, and his background in clinical social work and psychotherapy informs his work. The writings of Carl Jung, Carl Rogers, and Fritz Perls about dreamwork and symbols have also been influential.
